Wildcard Madness

Bob Behler-Host of the Bob and Chris show

The Giants are leading the wild card race in the National League – by a half game.  This team had the best record in the majors at the All Star break and has the worst record since.

I have been a glutton for punishment watching the same movie night after night.  Last night, the Giants carried a 4-1 lead in to the 9th inning against the Padres only to give up five runs and lose 6-4.  It was the fourth blown save this month alone. I could have gone to bed early, but no I stayed up to the bitter end.

A once promising even-numbered year is fading away.  The team hasn’t hit well in the second half.  They haven’t pitched well either.  Bumgarner and Samardzija aren’t as sharp as they were in the first half and Posey hasn’t homered since mid-July.

The Giants, Cardinals, and Mets are battling for the two NL wild card spots and the Giants host St. Louis for four beginning tomorrow.  The season looks like it is going to end without a spot in the post season.  The Mets have by far the easiest schedule of the three.

I will be very interested in seeing what the 2017 roster looks like.  The bullpen will be totally revamped. Romo, Casilla, and Lopez are all free agents.  They will need to add another starter.  Pagan’s contract is up so left field will be a question for next year, too.

I know the Giants have won three World Series since 2010, so I really can’t complain.  But this has been the most disappointing finish to a sports season for me in a long time.  There is still time to save the season, but I don’t see it. Just not enough people playing well.  I may have to start going to bed earlier.
