Confidence.
In yourself, those you work with and even in your favorite show or character. It’s all important to having or experiencing success. Brett Rypien can now begin his summer work for his 4th and final season with all the confidence in the world. In front of a sun baked 8,568 fans, Ryp proved to his teammates, coaches and fans that he can be The Man. He hit on 15 of 19 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns. He has been asked to put more air under his deep throws to allow for better ball tracking by younger receivers. He delivered with golden arches of 58 yards to Octavius Evans and 64 yards to AJ Richardson. Now, Ryp can walk the walk into the season opener vs Troy that, yes, he can make everyone around him better AND carry a team. Fans have to feel good about what they saw in Ryp, Evans, AJ, Cord and the entire #1 defense. The 2018 Broncos have their road work cut out for them early in the season with 3 of their first 4 games in Alabama, Oklahoma and Wyoming. It’s the Wild Wild West Road Show with Ryp, Alex, AJ and Evans coming to your cow town. It will take more of a gunslinger effort for Ryp early in the season, and in the 1st quarter, to shut down the Troy, Oklahoma State and Wyoming fans. They can feed off the swagger that they can do it…The Hall of Fame induction ceremony Friday night caused me to reflect on my own playing time at Boise State. I looked down the Hall of Fame list and saw 10-12 guys I played with in the Hall. I finally figured out why I could never become a 3 or 4 year starter at one position. I played behind some of the ALL TIME greats at Boise State! As a freshman, I was a back up nose guard and defensive tackle, giving Boise State and College Football Hall of Famer Randy Trautman an occasional blow. As a sophomore, I started at inside linebacker for a few games for injured Ray Santucci, who should be a Hall of Famer, and at stand up rush end for injured Hall of Famer John Rade. Weary of learning 4 positions already, playing every special team and short and long snapping, I declined a move to my 5th position, offensive center, before my junior year. I never started any games my junior year as 2 Hall of Famers Michel Bourgeau and Markus Koch easily started ahead of me. As a senior, I settled in at nose guard and started the first 7 games until Bourgeau blew his knee. I finished the season starting at defensive tackle. I started at 4 different positions in my time at Boise State because I wasn’t good enough to start at one. That happens when 4 of the 5 guys ahead of me were Hall of Famers. I never had looked at it that way…
