History Has A Way Of Repeating Itself

This is awful. Two losses in September…the sky is falling. One of the losses was to a team that won just two games the year before. The quarterback needs to be changed and the coaches aren’t doing a good job.  Sound like what people are saying after this week’s loss to Virginia? It was said in 2014 after Boise State’s loss to Air Force. Boise State ended up turning it around and winning the Mountain West.

The Broncos are 1-0 in the Mountain West right now, so that’s better than being 0-1 in the conference as was the case in 2014. Looking at the rest of the conference, San Diego State is the best team right now, but everyone, including them can be beaten.  I am not saying there aren’t issues – a lack of consistent offense and defense that has been on the field too much – but give them a chance to fix things.  They have a bye before two road games at BYU and San Diego State.

I think they’ve played a tough schedule so far and should beaten Washington State.  I think when the dust settles on Friday night in Pullman it will be the Cougars that will be 5-0 and not the USC Trojans. USC had trouble with Cal QB Josh Bowers, who isn’t in the same league as Luke Falk. The Bronco defense did a good job against him that no else has. Virginia is better than people think. Power 5 speed was on display Friday night at the receiver position. Let’s see what the Cavaliers do the rest of the year. Remember Air Force ended up winning 10 in 2014. With Virginia’s schedule, I don’t think the Cavaliers will win 10, but I do think they’ll be a bowl team. Troy is 3-1 and New Mexico is 2-2 after winning at Tulsa this weekend.

Lastly, Boise State has just 15 seniors on the roster and very few in key spots.  That can be attributed to a coaching change four years ago.  Quite a few of the commitments for the 2014 recruiting class prior to the coaching change are in Seattle right now.  The first recruiting class after a coaching change any where is always going to be light and that is showing up now as that class makes up your true seniors or red-shirt juniors.

There still is a lot of football to be played.  Let’s see what October brings.
