The College Football season is fast approaching. We are at the end of May and are now at the 100 day mark for the kickoff. Nationally, there are five things I am most interested in seeing play out.
- Jim Harbaugh on the sidelines at Michigan. How he will do. How much energy he brings to Michigan games and how fast he can turn them around.
- Seeing how good Nick Chubb can be at Georgia. With no returning quarterback a lot will be expected of the sophomore running back. Expect to see him carry the ball 30 times a game.
- Seeing how the College Football Playoff committee values teams. There was a lot of movement in the standings from week to week. I wonder if they did to create interest and whether we will see the volatility again.
- What kind of impact Everett Golson has at Florida State and whether anything is done to change the rule on graduate transfers.
- The Big 12 – the league left out of the first playoff. They have almost all of their key conference games to the last two weekends of the season. They tried to have their cake and eat it to last year hoping to slide both Baylor and TCU in to the playoff and it came back to bite them. Will they be left out again?
I also perused the early season non-conference games and found a lot of lackluster games. There were five early season games that caught my eye.
- Wisconsin-Alabama opening the season at Jerry World.
- Oregon at Michigan State – Ducks won last year in Eugene
- Notre Dame at Texas – will either of these teams be relevant this year
- Oklahoma at Tennessee – 15 years ago this was a clash of titans
And of course –
- Washington at Boise State – Coach Pete’s return to Boise. This game will be the most eagerly awaited home game and home opener since Oregon came in 2009.
There is three months of summer to enjoy…but it’s fun looking ahead to the fall.
