The Next Big Thing

In the college sports season, every game is the next biggest game.

After taking care of San Jose State, the Bronco men's basketball team needs to get on a roll.  The task tonight will be difficult and different.  Air Force teams are unique.  In football they run the option.  In basketball they run the Princeton offense with all of its back cuts and on defense they use a lot of matchup zone.  Both are not common in the Mountain West and both are pains in the you-know-what to prepare for.  The Falcons usually aren't as big and strong as opponents in both sports and count on precision execution to help them.  How well Boise State handles both tonight will be key.  In the first meeting last year, the Broncos didn't – and the Falcons shot 54 percent and shot scored 91.  In the game here, the Broncos changed some things defensively, holding Air Force to 65 and Boise State shot
54 percent and won.

Counting last Saturday's game with San Jose State, it looks like the Broncos have a step ladder of opponents going.  After playing Air Force, they'll travel to UNLV,  a team that looks like is finding themselves, and then host #5 San Diego State, a team that is unbeaten in the league.  The next week is going to be huge.  The Broncos have three difficult tests ahead.  Speaking with Anthony Drmic yesterday (and you can hear it on Wednesday's Bob and Murph Show) he says that the conference opponents scout you so well it is more difficult to get your shots off.  You can listen to all of these games with Abe Jackson and me on 670 KBOI.

And the women's team has made an unbelieveable turnaround.  They are
5-2 in the Mountain West and have won four in a row for the first time since 2008. You say one player doesn't make a difference….Deana Weaver became eligible in late December after transfering from Oregon and has helped this team immensely. And other players have improved too.  The Bronco women are at Air Force and host UNLV on Saturday looking to keep things going.  You can hear those games on 1350 the Ticket with Chris Lewis.
