The college football season is fast approaching.  Teams are in camp working towards Labor Day weekend openers.  It's always difficult evaluate any team in practice, because if an offense looks good, is it really the offense that is good or is the defense bad.  It is much easier to evaluate which players look better compared to relative players at the same position.  You can see who is making the throws at quarterback, which running back hits the hole faster, who in the secondary is making plays, or who is controlling the line of scrimmage.

Sunday night will be Bronco fans only opportunity to see the team before it opens the season at Washington.  You can hear the scrimmage on the Bronco Radio Network – 670 KBOI and 96.9 the Eagle.  Pregame coverage begins at 5 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.  I would bet in this scrimmage you will see a lot of the younger players, so take notes for the future.  I would think the real work will take place at today's closed scrimmage and Sunday's open one will be a lot more generic.

Joe Southwick and the receivers have looked good in practice.  They should, as they are some of the most experienced players on the team.  Defensively, the competition for the defensive line and the secondary has been spirited.  With a lot of departures at both spots, young talent is emerging.  

We've been on the air a week with our new show – The Bob and Murph Show.  Statesman columnist Brian Murphy and I are the KTIK airwaves, Monday through Friday from 1-3 p.m. talking about the world of sports.  On our show we will discuss the issues of the day…one throughout the fall will obviously be Boise State football.  We have a lot of contacts around the country and we will be bringing guests on to talk about different teams in college football.  Brian and I both love baseball, so as the playoffs and World Series get closer, we hope to hear from you on your thoughts of what will happen.  It was a fun first week and appreciate the callers input in particular on the topics of ARod and Johnny Football.
